Redirecting Thoughts!

Sometimes, we forget to take control of our minds. There are times that we just do a lot of things out of habit. We do a lot of things unconsciously. These days, whenever I find myself “thinking”, I am making sure I am thinking productive things. What will I do next?; What are my plans today?;How will I go about today’s activities? If alone in the car, driving, I’d deliberately turn on the positive, encouraging radio station, since their kind of music is good for the soul. I could listen and know that it is all good. As much as possible, I try not to think of negative or bad things. Why? Because I’ve proven that whenever I do that, it boomerangs on me! There was this one time when I felt so pissed off with my husband that my mind was just creating all these negative vibes! Asked what happened next? The more my husband got pissed off. I wasn’t even saying anything, it was all mind power, and it hasn’t done any good! So I experimented the next time it happened, ins...

Jack of All Trades

My parents gave me all the opportunities to try and do different activities while growing up. I did ballet. I had swimming lessons ; I joined theatre arts ; I had piano recitals ; I learned bicycling; I played volleyball; I was one of the editors in our school paper. I was even a member of University Quiz Bee contest called "Pautakan", representing our college for 3 years! In high school, I admired students who could do Impromptu Speeches. You see, I could memorize long scripts, I could compose essays but to speak my mind in a contest? Whoa! I guess, I carried that thought - wishful thinking with me, even after college, that it led me to become a member of Toastmaster's International in Makati, Philippines and then here in Gallup, NM, USA! Do I still know how to ballet dance? Mmmm... Lol! Swim? Mmmm... not where I can't touch the floor or sand, OK?  hehe Play piano? Mmmm... I can do two piano pieces? Will that count? hahaha Act? Oh yes! Could...

Reading and Loving It!

I love to read. Growing up, I would just be in my room reading whatever book is available. We have a mini library at home, super-mini but it was all powerful books. The books mom compiled  and collected for us to read are all books on living, loving and learning. I remember authors like Napoleon Hill, Dale Carnegie and Norman Vincent Peale among others. I have grown to love libraries; at least checking books out! Lol! When I was working in Makati, Phils; it was a bonus that our office was near National Bookstore! I got to spend my excess lunch minutes just browsing Self-Help books. There I found some more powerful authors like Leo Buscaglia; Wayne Dyer; Andrew Matthews, our very own Bo Sanchez,  among others. Up until now, I still try to read as much as I could; and am passing the habit to my kids. There is just so much power in the written word. Reading allows us to broaden our horizon; look beyond our own "boxes"; get to know ourselves more and le...

How to make pandesal

It has been years since I tasted PANDESAL (Salt Bread) again,  so when a friend here in Gallup made one, I knew I just have to learn how to do it too! The first try was good enough!  I followed panlasangpinoy's recipe but then I am not sure if it was kneaded correctly,  but still good enough! Lol!  I started preparing at 11:30pm, I finished at 2:00am. I was that excited! 1st attempt. Kids loved it! The next try was with friends, I decided on the amount of milk, sugar, and mixing of the wet ingredients first, prior to mixing it with the mixed dry ingredients. It was kind of success!  There were four of us, one prepared the yeast mixture, the other one prepared the wet mix (milk-butter-egg), while the other one mixed the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, salt, baking powder) and kneaded the dough. While the other one took photos and ate! Lol! Here's our product prior to baking it!     Another friend...

Dennis and Gardening

I admire Dennis, my husband. Well, because of the photos in Facebook, I am sure you already know how skillful he is! He's totally my opposite! What amazes me too is how he can plant something, anything, and it will grow. I also do the opposite! Lol! Maybe, there are really people who has "green thumb" and others who has not. (what do you think? lol) You see, he dreams of having his own farm lot someday, well, maybe our backyard (hehe), where he’ll grow herbs, flowering plants, trees! Back in New Orleans where we stayed for 4 years he planted chayote, melons, and other vegetables – and I was informed that up to now, it is still alive and producing! Here in New Mexico, he tried growing vegetables too, but with the heat of summer and since we are staying in an apartment, he is limited as to what he can do. Maybe someday, he’ll make his dream come true. For the meantime, while browsing the net about gardening, I have found this website The Growers Exch...

Teaching. Kids. Me.

credit Honestly, I do not know how to teach young kids. Shame huh, but that’s the truth, I can teach older kids, high school students, college students, even graduate students. But not little kids! Maybe, I just don’t have the patience and the skills to teach them! There was this one time when I really wanted to teach again. Since there was an opening at a grade 1 level, I tried my luck and applied for the position. The thing was, I do not have any elementary education background but using all the positive energy in me, I tried my best. I did, really! I stood up in front of the room of bright-eyed kids. I started my lesson, and tried to make them follow what the lesson was about. I didn’t know what to expect! I’ve never seen Grade 1 kids in action (I forgot how we were in Grade 1 too!). My! My sweat was just all over! There were staring at me, and just doing that! Maybe they were asking themselves, if I am a real teacher or what! Lol! Even if my credentials we...

Prelude to Socorro Adventure

The key to a healthy body is sweat! I have not been sweating for months because of the winter season. Now that it is summer, I am beginning to feel it! ... especially here in Socorro, NM! credit We drove today for 3 hours from Gallup because I will be attending a course in Physics! The whole family joined me since we were given free housing for the week. But, my, my, my! it is sooooo hot!!! It is now 10:40pm and still I am sweating.. and all I am doing is browsing the internet and Facebook! Major why? they are using swamp coolers in the university , and I think the pump installed in our apartment is broken! Great! Everyone's asleep though, because we all took a bath and felt refreshed. Thanks to the fan and the opened windows! It's 5 days of "I-don't-know-what-is-in-store-for-me-in-the-course" I did not even teach this school year and definitely not Physics! Oh well, excitement is in the air! Lol! So, for the next 5 days, I'...

Games in our Minds

Since daddy worked abroad we were blessed with high technology toys and gadgets growing up. I just remembered because every time I would drive and need to cross roads, my mind would automatically switch to game mode! Lol! You see, I used to love this Chicken Crossing The Road Game using ATARI then. I would control the chicken's movement so it wouldn't get killed while crossing, the chicken needs to walk past 4 lanes to get a score -mmm, to get the worm at the other side!  credit So,  just to make a connection, it could be that when we are constantly faced with the same challenges everyday, even via online games, we also subconsciously get to actualize it. It no longer matters if it's just a game or the real thing, we react the same to it! The point is REPETITION, VISUALIZATION and MIND CONDITIONING may actually work especially in achieving our goals or achieving our dreams. What do you really want? If, say, we really want to become a millionaire... then we may set up situat...

Loving Basketball Again!

It started the night of Pacquiao and Bradley's boxing fight! A group was cheering on a basketball game. I have not watched BASKETBALL in yearssss! True!!! (I think the last time was in high school! Lol!) So, I asked about it and remembered hearing about a Filipino-American coach leading Miami Heat basketball team. I instantly cheered for them - JUST BECAUSE Eric is a Filipino.. race connection! Lol! Miami Heat won vs Boston Celtics. Eric Spoelstra From then on, the same group of basketball followers would gather from one house to another to watch the finals - Oklahoma Thunders vs Miami Heat, from games 1 to 5. It was hilarious since the group has both OKC and Heat followers. We were dancing the chicken dance, chanting "an-na lang" (I think it means, that's the way to do it.. just like that!), shouts of "shooooot", raising of arms and major clapping!  It was a gathering of great minds! Lol! since we talked about ideas Lol!, we ate (pot luck every time) and ju...

365 Project: HALFWAY done!

credit I started this 365 days project of writing last December 12, 2011. Who would have guessed I am halfway done? This is my 182nd day already!!! Here's an excerpt from my 365 days project post. I've always wanted to write everyday... One day at a time... one story at a time.. for 365 days . I hope that you'd join me as I write my her heart out... Stories of my life. Stories to share. Stories to learn about. stories to read. Positive that as I uncover mysteries of life in its simplicity and beauty, YOU will also be able to relate, find common things, learn, unlearn, undo, redo, own, justify, correct, metamorphose, change… life as it is. Did I religiously write everyday? No, it is hard! Sometimes, I just don't know what to write! But I try to compensate days I haven't written so I could catch up with the project. I just need to think outside of the box to it happen! What have I learned so far? I've learned all the more, how powerful our minds could g...

Daddy's Girl!

Dearest Daddy, I know I am your little girl, Lol! Not little anymore, but in your heart I will always be right? Growing up you were always calling out my name.. always looking for me! I guess, I always seemed to have my own agenda Lol! I remember when I failed to recognize you when you decided to come home to surprise us. I opened the door, and asked who you were. You looked different, you just came from Saudi Arabia with all the beard and mustache! Lol! I think I burst into tears knowing what I just did! Lol! Daddy, I just want to thank you for all the sacrifices you have done to our family. Thank you for the many years that you have been an OFW just to support our studies. Education, you and mommy would always say is the only inheritance you could give us and it won't be taken away from us. Thank you for the gift of education. I was able to study in Manila because of your trust, confidence and belief in me. Thank you. Thank you for the many opportunities that you have given me an...

On Bullies and Antidote!

read here: on bullies and antidote! "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you,  then you win ." - Mahatma Gandhi “The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully ; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.” - Jim Rohn "In any situation, the best thing you can do is the right thing ; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing." - Theodore Roosevelt http://pinoyteacherstories.blogspot.com Check out my Laughing Matter!   post at PINOY TEACHER'S STORIES . Overspeeding!!!

credit While driving, a police car passed me by, turned around and followed me. I slowed down.  credit It gave a warning for me to stop. I did.  I was running a lot of excuses in my mind but decided to put it all aside. I prayed instead - Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. A police women came. "Hi!" I said, "Hello!" "Ok", she said, "I pulled you over, because you were running at 60mph in a 45 lane". I said "I'm sorry". She said "Now do you have driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes". There was a pause (Oh, I guess, this was the time when I should have given her everything already), she repeated, "So, you do have your driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes", and took out my driver's license.  She took it, and said, "so you've never been stopped before?" I said, ...
