What Reading and Believing Can Do!

credit

My husband prodded that I watch the movie he was watching at Netflix. He said, I will learn a lot on how I could help our kids become intelligent.

I told him, sure, I'll do that later.

He changed computers and used the big screen in watching instead. He persisted, "Join me in watching the movie, you'll see how he became so intelligent!!!"

I told him, ok, then start it over.

It is uncommon of him to start a movie over, and yet he did!

It was a light bulb moment!

Just after watching a few parts of the movie, I called Mymy, told her, she won't be using her computer anymore, until she reads a book and make a book review on it; and until she spells words correctly; and she will only use the computer for two hours max a day!

After watching a few more parts. I called both my kids again and dictated for them to stop playing games in their Ipad already, go to their beds and read a book. NOW!

That was how the movie pushed me to action!

"You have the world inside your head. You just have to open it up, and find it!" - Ben's mom
"You can do anything, anyone else can do. Only you can do it better." - Ben's mom

In the movie, which is a real life story, his mom seemed to just knew the right words to say, she couldn't even read, a drop out at third grade and yet her words were powerful!

Tell me something, why did you decide to become a brain doctor?

Ben Carson: The brain…its a miracle. Do you believe in miracles. Not a lot of doctors do. There isn’t a lot of faith among physicians. We study reports, it’s all very tangible. But the fact is there are so many things we just can’t explain. I believed we are all capable of performing miracles, up here (points to head). We are blessed with astonishing gifts and skills. Look at Handel. I mean, how can he come up with The Messiah in only 3 weeks. (pointing to head again) This is the key. The source of inspiration for unbelievable accomplishments.

I thank God for you, Dr. Ben Carlson.

  2. It's always good to have kids earn their TV time and games so when real life creeps in, they'll be ready. They'll understand the concept of hard work and rewards plus they learn more through the book review. Ipad has by now looked like a toy for kids.

  3. I would love to watch this one!!! where can I download it po? I want to watch it badly! I'm really into books, its just that whenever I see my laptop, I can't resist but use it and ending up sleeping really late and not reading anything and not doing what I should have done.

  4. Belief is a state of mind that is sometimes translated into action. The mind serves like one of the power engines inside the human body.

I like Carson's response on why he chose to become a brain doctor.

  5. I've always believed that a child who reads is a child who leads. TV isn't really bad, but spending too much infront of the TV or PC or whatever game console there is--isn't good for kids. It could either be an advantage or a disadvantage, and it all depends on how parents teach their kids on how to properly use these gadgets. I don't know about you, But I still prefer the tangible books than the kindle or e-book reader. There's something about books that excites me--the smell of newly opened paperbacks, the sight of best selling books and autographed by my fave author inspires me.

  6. Oh yes, I believe reading is important that's why I'm back to reading novels again. They're not "smart" books but it helped me with my vocabulary, spelling, and learning new words. :D

  8. I'd love to watch this interesting movie you shared. As a mom, I know how important to teach our children to read books. I am starting to teach my 3 year old daughter to browse and read her storybooks and even our magazines.

  10. At a time of cyber-chaos brought to us by Internet, cable TV, and other forms of digital media, the good old book is still regarded highly in our home.

Redirecting Thoughts!

Sometimes, we forget to take control of our minds. There are times that we just do a lot of things out of habit. We do a lot of things unconsciously. These days, whenever I find myself “thinking”, I am making sure I am thinking productive things. What will I do next?; What are my plans today?;How will I go about today’s activities? If alone in the car, driving, I’d deliberately turn on the positive, encouraging radio station, since their kind of music is good for the soul. I could listen and know that it is all good. As much as possible, I try not to think of negative or bad things. Why? Because I’ve proven that whenever I do that, it boomerangs on me! There was this one time when I felt so pissed off with my husband that my mind was just creating all these negative vibes! Asked what happened next? The more my husband got pissed off. I wasn’t even saying anything, it was all mind power, and it hasn’t done any good! So I experimented the next time it happened, ins...

Overspeeding!!!

credit While driving, a police car passed me by, turned around and followed me. I slowed down.  credit It gave a warning for me to stop. I did.  I was running a lot of excuses in my mind but decided to put it all aside. I prayed instead - Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. A police women came. "Hi!" I said, "Hello!" "Ok", she said, "I pulled you over, because you were running at 60mph in a 45 lane". I said "I'm sorry". She said "Now do you have driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes". There was a pause (Oh, I guess, this was the time when I should have given her everything already), she repeated, "So, you do have your driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes", and took out my driver's license.  She took it, and said, "so you've never been stopped before?" I said, ...
