Pinoy Teacher's Stories

http://pinoyteacherstories.com

Today, for some unknown inspiration I've created another blog site for FILIPINO TEACHERS! Welcome to PINOY TEACHER'S STORIES!

Prior to coming here in the USA in September,2007. I was really very curious!

First and foremost, it was my first time to ever leave the Philippines! I didn't even have an idea as to what "another country" looks like! I was that naive!

So, I had too many questions! From: "What will happen to me in schools? What will the students say? How do they look like? Will they understand me? What about the teachers, are they nice? What about the system?" To: "Will I survive???"

My only prior knowledge then were School-related Hollywood movies! And, hmmm, it was not heaven at all!

Thus, I surfed the net and did my research.

I was hoping to find a STORY of a real Filipino Teacher in America, who shares her thoughts, her experiences, insights and learning. I was hoping to find a website that would allow me to prepare as to what is in store for me when I go there!

Unfortunately, I did not find any STORY! Yes, there were news about agencies being sued, teacher rallies, achievements, organizations existing in a particular area... But, what I was really looking for wasn't there or maybe I just didn't surf enough?

So, just like being married, I was in for a surprise! I had to find out for myself my WIFM "What's in it for me?".

And this is my story... my stories!

I am dedicating this blog to all FILIPINO teachers who are wanting or at least dreaming to see what life in another country, well, I haven't been to any "other" yet but America, so this blog is dedicated to all FILIPINO teachers who are aspiring to work in the land of milk and honey?!!?

I'm very excited to start...

Thank you all for reading and following my blogs!

NAMASTE.

Redirecting Thoughts!

Sometimes, we forget to take control of our minds. There are times that we just do a lot of things out of habit. We do a lot of things unconsciously. These days, whenever I find myself “thinking”, I am making sure I am thinking productive things. What will I do next?; What are my plans today?;How will I go about today’s activities? If alone in the car, driving, I’d deliberately turn on the positive, encouraging radio station, since their kind of music is good for the soul. I could listen and know that it is all good. As much as possible, I try not to think of negative or bad things. Why? Because I’ve proven that whenever I do that, it boomerangs on me! There was this one time when I felt so pissed off with my husband that my mind was just creating all these negative vibes! Asked what happened next? The more my husband got pissed off. I wasn’t even saying anything, it was all mind power, and it hasn’t done any good! So I experimented the next time it happened, ins...

Imbalance

For years, I’ve never had a credit card. A friend literally shouted at me when I looked at the application form. He said, “DON’T YOU DARE APPLY!!!” and so I didn’t. I didn’t even try to mind  what effects they were trying to tell me if I own one.  Come 2007, in the land of milk and honey?!, I was forced to apply for a credit card. “Credit cards are needed to have credit scores”; “It is a must here!”; “Everyone’s got a credit card!”; “No we don’t carry cash, we carry cards”. So I did get one, nope, two, nope, three, nope… OK, to date I have 8 cards!!!!  Yes, I’ve been managing my accounts really well, never had a month without paying, at least the minimum amount. Yes, credit cards made us survive financial turbulence! Yes, credit cards made me say YES, YES, YES!  Since coming here in the land of the free?!, never had we stayed home for long breaks.. we’ve travelled and travelled far to beautiful places, checked in to different hotels, ate, bought, spent… NO budgeting,...

Overspeeding!!!

credit While driving, a police car passed me by, turned around and followed me. I slowed down.  credit It gave a warning for me to stop. I did.  I was running a lot of excuses in my mind but decided to put it all aside. I prayed instead - Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. A police women came. "Hi!" I said, "Hello!" "Ok", she said, "I pulled you over, because you were running at 60mph in a 45 lane". I said "I'm sorry". She said "Now do you have driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes". There was a pause (Oh, I guess, this was the time when I should have given her everything already), she repeated, "So, you do have your driver's license, registration and insurance?" I said, "Yes", and took out my driver's license.  She took it, and said, "so you've never been stopped before?" I said, ...
